Initial Idea #2- GHD Curling Tongs

  • GHD are iconic for their hair straighteners and have prided themselves on being the one and only hair device needed. On their website they even claim 'The original multi-award-winning ghd IV styler is the perfect tool for quick, effortless straightening and easy curls and waves. Suitable for all hair types and lengths. A brilliant all-rounder for everyday styling' suggesting that they require no need to make a curling tong, as their straighteners are already multi-purpose.

  • In addition, there is an age old debate within the beauty industry over whether it is easier to curl your hair with curling tongs or straighteners, and the majority verdict is straighteners. Most people tend to find curling tongs more time consuming and usually straighten their hair before curling anyway, meaning it is easier to carry on using the straighteners to curl. These debates can be found here in this forum group. This article here also highlights the pros and cons of using both straighteners and curlers. Although it comes down to preference, ultimately many people prefer using straighteners suggesting there isn't really a gap in the market for this product.
  • There are also tutorials in abundance teaching people how to curl their hair with GHDs. Whether this be on YouTube or blog posts or websites like this one, it seems there is more of a market for the straightener being multi-functional. Therefore it feels like there wouldn't be much in the way of a market for GHD to create a curling tong.
