Initial Idea #5- Styling App

  • As I want to create this styling app for women, it could be produced as for the same company as Threads (makers of the original) or an entirely new brand all together. This could be an existing company or a new one.
  • There would be features including the ability to upload images of your own clothes, create moodboards (similar to those of Polyvore) and create wishlists of items you want (like the service Wantworthy).

  • The company Threads already offer a personal styling service for woman but as of yet have only created the app for men. Their personal styling services include 'Wardrobe Refresh' package, 'Personal Shopping', 'Effortless Shopping', 'Special Occasion' and 'New Start' package. All of these services cost over £500, which suggests that the app (if made for Threads) would have to be a paid for app.
  • There are a few similar services currently on the market so to make this app different it would have to integrate these features but also some unique ones to stand out from the crowd. An article on fastcompany.com outlines some of the best fashion stylist apps available at the moment; 'Starting with Go Shop! from Ovi, which is an up-to-date directory of shops helping you navigate through hundreds of stores by giving you lists and reviews of the stores closest to you. Ask A Stylist iPhone app gives you one to one personal advice about what to wear and more importantly, what not to wear. Then finally, Touch Closet, on iPhone, helps you put your whole wardrobe on your phone and gives you a bit of inspiration to make sure you mix and match your look.'
  • In addition there is an online programme called 'Stylebook' which allows users to upload images of their own wardrobes, whilst personal stylists help them make the most out of their current clothes and mix and match their style.
